Guide to Getting Started
Step 1: Intake
The intake session is a 1–2 hour appointment designed to gather essential background information. For child evaluations, this session typically includes both the child and their parent(s). We schedule intakes a few
weeks in advance, as they help determine whether a full evaluation is necessary. In some cases, an evaluation may not be required based on the intake findings.
Step 2: In-Person Evaluation
All evaluations are conducted in-person and typically last 4–6 hours. To ensure a smooth process, we provide breaks throughout the day. We recommend that you or your child arrive well-rested and bring water, snacks, and lunch for comfort and focus during the session.
Step 3: In-Depth Data Collection
To gain a comprehensive understanding, self-report forms are completed by the individual being evaluated, parents, and sometimes a teacher, particularly for school-age children. If applicable, we may also conduct school observations to gather additional insights.
Step 4: Data Integration and Report Writing
Using the collected data, test results, and professional analysis, we create a detailed report that includes our findings, conclusions, and recommendations. This step requires approximately one month to ensure a thorough and accurate synthesis of the information.
Step 5: Feedback Session
In a 1–1.5 hour session, your clinician will review the evaluation results, share any diagnoses, and provide clear recommendations for next steps. This session ensures you have a complete understanding of the findings and a plan for moving forward.
A Simple Break Down
Cost & Coverage
Prior to starting your psychological evaluation, you will be provided with an estimate. During your intake session, we will review the specific tests recommended for you or your child, explain the process, and provide a more detailed estimate of the total cost. Each psychological evaluation requires between 15 and 25 hours of clinical time (i.e., interviews, assessments, review of materials, and report writing). For private-pay clients, evaluation costs typically range from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the complexity of the assessment and the specific tests required (Out-of-pocket fee: $250 per hour for intake, test administration, report writing, and feedback).
Inpsychful Wellness is an in-network provider with Aetna, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Priority Health, and United Health Care. If you use a different insurance provider, we provide a detailed statement of services, also known as a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
It is important to verify your insurance coverage before the evaluation process begins. Contact your insurance provider to understand your mental health benefits, confirm what they cover for psychological testing, and clarify any out-of-pocket costs, co-pays, or deductibles. Taking these steps ensures a smooth process and helps you plan for any financial responsibilities.
We are committed to providing clarity and support every step of the way to make the evaluation process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
